Hi, I'm Katie and Holly Block is my freelance graphic design business. You may be wondering,

Why is it called Holly Block?

In third grade, my friends and I created a comic book and greeting card "company" called KEBMJDA (all our initials) Holly. The logo was a holly leaf in a dome. Why holly? I had just learned how to draw a holly leaf at the time. You work with the tools you've got, in business and in third grade.

We made a recurring serial comic book, merchandise (the band-aids were my favorite) and seasonal bonus material.

It was literally a post-recess franchise operation.

The next year I moved and had to switch schools, but I still used the logo on all my creative material. Call it missing my friends, or nostalgia, or a desire to start something bigger than myself. I had just learned how to draw a cube, so naturally the logo had evolved to show a block encasing some holly. The name had evolved, too, to Holly Block.

While the original "post-recess franchise" is no longer churning out "Gruntilda and Bram" bookmarks (copyright violation would have doomed It from the start), I've kept the Holly Block logo. I have fallen in love with graphic design since childhood and have refined that love over the last decade working professionally with design, in marketing departments, for nonprofits, in freelance, and even having taught design at the university level.

Now it's time to make your lifelong dreams come true, too.
